June 9th, 2015 marks the 100th birthday of Les Paul and there are many opportunities for fans to celebrate this memorial event in honor of the legendary Les Paul.
Visit Waukesha to see the giant, artistic Gibson guitars and playable guitars, Murals, the Les Paul Performance Center, and of course, the Les Paul Monument in Waukesha WI.
June 9th – City of Waukesha Celebration
Former Mayor Paul Vrakas will lead a graveside celebration with music at the Les Paul Monument located in Prairie Home Cemetery. Later on the Waukesha County Museum will host a communitywide birthday party that will include music, dancing and hors d’oeuvres, including a fundraiser for the museum. It will be the only time the museum will be open to the public this summer.
June 16th – Waukesha Public Library
The Waukesha Public Library will feature the documentary “Les Paul Chasing Sound” on Tuesday, June 16th.
Waukesha Tribute Concerts – Les Paul Performance Center
Three Tuesday evening tribute concerts will run from 7pm to 9pm at the Les Paul Performance Center in Cutler Park in Waukesha. Performances include:
- A Johnny Cash tribute band on June 23rd
- A Beatles tribute band on July 14th
- A Blues Brothers tribute band on Aug. 11th
The Waukesha Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department will sponsor the concerts.
August 6th – Waukesha BluesFest Grounds
A Music Celebration for the Wizard of Waukesha
Live music from 5pm to 10pm. Musical acts include a Les Paul All-Star Guitar Band led by Wisconsin axe master Greg Koch, a Les Paul & Mary Ford tribute by Chris Hanson and Robin Pluer, the Sam Llanas Band, Guitars 4 Vets Five-Star Band, and the 2015 Les Paul Launchpad award-wining band.
