Waukesha GuitarTown Encore Project Announces Participating Artists for 2013

GuitarTown Steering CommitteeWAUKESHA, WI – The Waukesha Guitartown Steering Committee will announce the artists that have been selected to design the next round of fifteen 10-foot fiberglass replicas, and 24 playable Les Paul guitars that will become part of a public art project. The announcement will take place during a reception at Bernie’s Tap Room & Restaurant on March 18, 2013. The event is open to the public and free of charge.

A committee headed by Lynn Gaffey, owner of the Almont Gallery and Artistic Director of the Waukesha GuitarTown Project, chose the selected artists.  Artists were required to submit a bio, portfolio and proposed conceptual ideas with selection based on artistic merit and the guidelines for public art that were provided by both Gibson Guitar Corp., and the Public Art Committee of Waukesha.

The Waukesha GuitarTown Encore project is excited to announce that this year’s project has grown to 15 ten-foot guitars and 24 playable showcase guitars. With these additions, the Waukesha GuitarTown Project will be beautifying Waukesha’s landscape with a total of twenty-five 10-foot guitars. Likewise, the playable Les Paul guitars will now increase to a total of 44.

Visual artists from around southeastern Wisconsin are once again contributing their talents to this project.  This year’s sponsors will be able to display them at their place of business as well as being featured on an area map of Waukesha, much like the Guitar Pick map that was used for the downtown during the summer of 2012.

Playable guitars will once again be sent to Gibson for the addition of strings and related hardware before being returned to Waukesha for indoor display.  All the guitars will be displayed in downtown Waukesha during the opening weekend of Waukesha’s Freeman Friday Night Live on June 7, 2013.

The joint efforts of the Gibson Guitar Foundation and local sponsorships are providing funding for this project.  Sponsorships opportunities for the 2013 Guitartown Project is available by contacting Rick Congdon, President of Waukesha GuitarTown.
