WAUKESHA, WI – We are celebrating our 3rd year as a Gibson GuitarTown participant, the only GuitarTown community in the world that has been honored with a third year of this nationally acclaimed art project done in collaboration with Gibson Guitar Company.
This year’s opening night will be Friday, June 06, 2014.
Artists’ Custard Social
The event will kick-off at 5:30 p.m. with a custard social for this year’s student artists and their parents in the grassy lot next to Allô Chocolat at 234 W. Main St.
Live Music & Art
For the evening’s events a tent and stage area will be set up for a welcome ceremony that will begin at 6:00 p.m. Music will be provided by the Les Paul Trio who will be joined by Earl Slick during one of their sets. Guitars from this year’s project will be featured in this area as well.
City-wide School Art Collaboration
Waukesha GuitarTown invited every public and private school in the City of Waukesha to participate in the project for 2014. This year’s GuitarTown will add 30 playable artist guitars and four 10-foot guitars to Waukesha’s collection. This summer the guitars will be featured at several different locations in downtown Waukesha before being returned to their respective schools in the fall.
Additionally, Waukesha GuitarTown – in conjunction with the Waukesha School District – has received 30 acoustical guitars that have been donated by Gibson so that Waukesha North, Waukesha South, and Waukesha West High Schools will each have 10 guitars for students to use in their guitar classes that are being offered for the first time this fall.
Waukesha GuitarTown 2014 continues to build on the momentum of previous years and will persist in uniting area businesses with the community in an effort to celebrate its cultural contributions.
The following quote from Gibson’s Chairman, Henry Juszkwiewicz, sums up the pride and sense of community that Waukesha GuitarTown has fostered and is very proud to represent:
“Gibson is thrilled to participate in Waukesha GuitarTown once again this year. Being the birth place of the great Les Paul, Waukesha holds a very special place in the hearts of Gibson Brands. 2014 marks what would have been the 99th birthday of Les Paul and we are honored to be part of continuing his great legacy. We are proud of our involvement with Waukesha GuitarTown and the opportunity to help support and further music education here in this great city.”
– Henry Juszkiewicz, Chairman and CEO of Gibson Brands
Join us on June 6th for the unveiling of the guitars, as well as the kick-off of the community’s summer Waukesha Friday Night Live music series, which is brought to you by the Waukesha Downtown Business Association. Again in 2014, Waukesha’s Friday Night Live will feature nine stages of live music every Friday night from June until October.
